The Soviet underground practice of pressing forbidden jazz and rock onto discarded hospital X-rays gave listeners music that literally played on human bones, a contraband art form known as "ribs" or "bones." King Gizzard tapping that lineage for their Bootlegger Series feels exactly right for a band that has always treated their own catalog as living, mutating material, releasing music on their own terms and daring their audience to keep up.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard returns to the officially sanctioned Bootlegger Series through Having Fun Records with a release inspired by the haunting history of Soviet-era ""bone music"" recordings - underground records pressed onto discarded medical x-rays. Drawn from live recordings captured during the band's 2025 performances at Field of Vision, this edition transforms the Bootlegger Series into a morbid archival artifact: a playable human skull rendered in translucent one-sided x-ray form.
