The Lawrence Marable Quartet – Tenorman (LP Vinyl)
Product Details
Lawrence Marable spent years anchoring the West Coast rhythm sections that made that scene swing, working alongside Chet Baker, Hampton Hawes, and others in the tight-knit Los Angeles jazz community of the 1950s. Recorded in 1956, Tenorman gave James Clay his first real spotlight, and Sonny Clark's presence on piano ties this session directly to the Blue Note hard bop lineage he'd help define on his own classic dates.
The Lawrence Marable Quartet Tenorman Blue Note Tone Poet Edition (LP) A West Coast jazz date that blows with hard bop gusto, Tenorman by the Lawrence Marable Quartet featuring James Clay was a hard-swinging session led by the esteemed drummer (Marable) that served as an introduction of the young Texan tenor (Clay) with support from pianist Sonny Clark and bassist Jimmy Bond. This mono Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.
