By 1994, Lush had already carved out a signature place in the 4AD constellation alongside peers like Cocteau Twins and Pale Saints, but *Split* marked a deliberate pivot toward something more direct and song-forward. The Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi songwriting partnership found new tension in that balance between sweetness and unease, a duality that made the shoegaze scene's best moments so compelling.
Featuring the singles ‘Desire Lines’ and ‘Hypocrite’, Split is the second full studio album by Lush. Produced by Mike Hedges - famed for his work on The Cure’s Seventeen Seconds & Siouxsie and the Banshees’s A Kiss in the Dreamhouse – and mixed by Alan Moulder, Split sees the band hit a poppier sound whilst retaining their almost pitch-black feel.
