Born and raised in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Marc Anthony brought an East Harlem edge to the clave that connected the barrio to a global audience. Contra La Corriente arrived at a moment when salsa romántica was evolving beyond formula, and Anthony, working alongside arranger Sergio George, pushed the sound into emotionally complex territory that radio wasn't expecting but couldn't resist.

Marc Anthony -"Contra La Corriente" [Translucent Smoke LP] Marc Anthony's Contra La Corriente is a landmark salsa album that cemented his status as one of Latin music's defining voices. Originally released in 1997, the album pairs Anthony's powerful vocals with sophisticated arrangements and songs of love and heartbreak. Featuring classics like "Y Hubo Alguien," "Contra La Corriente," "No Me Conoces," and "Si Te Vas," the album made history as the first salsa release to reach #1 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and earned Anthony a GRAMMY Award. An essential release from one of the most celebrated eras of his career and available for the first time on Translucent Smoke vinyl.
