Marshall Crenshaw – The Bootleg Sounds Of Marshall Crenshaw: 1984-87 (LP Vinyl)
Product Details
Marshall Crenshaw arrived in the early '80s as one of rock's sharpest melodic craftsmen, a Detroit-bred songwriter whose ear for a hook put him in rare company. This collection fills in the gaps between his debut and his later Warner Bros. work, capturing the restless creative process of an artist who never stopped writing, even when the tapes weren't rolling for official purposes. The Buddy Holly connection runs deep for Crenshaw, who played Buddy in the original Broadway production of "La Bamba" forerunner "Leader of the Pack" , hearing him tackle "That'll Be the Day" with E Street rhythm section veterans Tallent and Weinberg feels anything but incidental.
Marshall Crenshaw has dug through his archives and curated a compilation of previously unreleased recordings, demos and live songs recorded between 1984 and 1989. Songs include a cover of Buddy Holly's ""That'll Be the Day,"" featuring Garry Tallent and Max Weinberg; demo versions of songs that would appear on his third and fourth studio albums; live recordings from 1986-87; and other lost recordings Marshall unearthed from his studio.
