Marvelous Kid – After the Race (CD)
Product Details
Marvelous Kid occupy that narrow, fertile corridor where Canterbury's fluid jazz-rock sensibility crosses into something harder and more theatrical. Their appearance at the original 1971 Glastonbury Faire puts them in rare company, sharing that founding moment with Traffic, Hawkwind, and Fairport Convention. Five decades on, these recovered studio recordings finally give the band the document they never had, a proper artifact for the obsessives who've been trading their name in whispers.
Seelie Court - the world's premier label for rare and previously unreleased archive recordings of underground folk, rock, proto-metal, and psychedelic music presents After the Races. Marvelous Kid. Gigged across Great Britain in the early 70s and played the first ever Glastonbury Festival, performing stunning Canterbury-esque extended Art Rock tracks. Their name originates from an American edition of Kipling's Just So Stories, and is spelt with one 'L' causing mass confusion and misspellings from day one, even amongst the band themselves. These studio tracks were for a planned 1973 LP that never was - and it's some of the finest complex Prog Rock of the era. At times there's a hint of the great Robert Calvert in the vocal. File with Caravan, Soft Machine and Yes.
