Mel Tormé arrived at Verve in 1958 already a seasoned pro, having cut his teeth on radio, film, and the postwar club circuit before this first collaboration with the label. The Acoustic Sounds reissue treatment, sourced from original analog tapes, does full justice to a voice that could move from silky ballad warmth to crisp, rhythmically nimble scat without losing an ounce of control.
