Released in 1996, Load marked a deliberate stylistic pivot, with the band embracing blues-inflected grooves, Southern rock textures, and a rawer, looser feel that divided the metal faithful at the time but has aged into something more interesting than its initial reception suggested. The centerpiece of this remaster is the restored "The Outlaw Torn," finally heard at its full intended length, giving listeners the version James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich always meant to close the album.

Metallica is continuing to release remasters of their catalog, with the latest being the 5x-platinum Load, available everywhere on June 13th. Produced by Bob Rock, Load is the follow-up to Metallica, the best-selling album of the Soundscan era. Load contains fan favorites including “Until It Sleeps,” “Hero of the Day,” “King Nothing,” and, for the first time ever, the original extended version of “The Outlaw Torn,” which was originally edited due to manufacturing limits.
