Miles Davis – Miles '56 (3-CD)
Product Details
The May 1956 marathon sessions that produced those four Prestige albums were famously arranged so Davis could fulfill his contract and sign with Columbia, where "Kind of Blue" awaited three years later. What he left behind was anything but contractual obligation: a working band at the peak of its collective instincts, with a then-19-year-old Philly Joe Jones anchoring rhythms that still feel inevitable, and a 29-year-old Coltrane still finding the voice that would soon change everything.
Released to celebrate Miles Davis’ centennial, Miles ’56 collects together recordings from the year that Davis recorded his most influential work on Prestige. With cuts from “Cookin,” “Relaxin,” “Workin” and “Steamin”, this collection includes the Quintet of Davis, Coltrane, Garland, Chambers, & Jones. Released on limited 4-LP and remastered from the original analog tapes by GRAMMY-winning engineer Paul Blakemore the set Included new liner notes by GRAMMY-winners Ashley Kahn and Dan Morgenstern.
