Product Details

Recorded over several sessions in 1959 and 1960 with arranger and composer Gil Evans, Sketches Of Spain marked the third and most ambitious chapter in their celebrated collaboration, following Miles Ahead and Porgy and Bess. The centerpiece, a sweeping adaptation of Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, placed Davis's trumpet in conversation with full orchestration in a way that felt genuinely cinematic, drawing the album toward classical and flamenco traditions without abandoning the emotional directness that defined his best work.

180gm vinyl repressing of the mono edition of the Jazz legend's 1960 album. Sketches Of Spain is considered by fans and critics alike to be one of the most accessible albums of Davis's career. Less improvisational than much of his other work, some of Davis' contemporaries suggested that Sketches Of Spain was something other than jazz. Davis replied (according to Rolling Stone magazine), "It's music, and I like it".
