Filth Pig landed in 1996 as a deliberate provocation, arriving at a moment when industrial metal's mainstream window was closing and Jourgensen seemed to relish the alienation. The suffocating slowness here owes more to Black Sabbath than to the club-ready assault of Psalm 69, and that willingness to shed their own signature sound made it one of the most divisive entries in the Ministry catalog. Time has been kinder to it than the initial reception suggested.

FILTH PIG is the sixth studio album by industrial metal band Ministry. Originally released in 1996, the title was allegedly derived from a statement made in the British Houses of Parliament, where bandleader Al Jourgensen was described as a filthy pig by MP Teddy Taylor. For FILTH PIG, Ministry stripped all synthesizers and most samples from their style and made the music almost entirely with ultra-noisy guitars, heavy bass, and real drums, giving it an almost Doom Metal feel. FILTH PIG was supported with the singles/videos 'Reload', 'The Fall', 'Lay Lady Lay' (a cover of Bob Dylan's old country-tinged hit) and 'Brick Windows'. Deluxe 2LP edition features rare single edits and B-sides.
