Product Details
Recorded at the peak of her commercial visibility, this is Nina Simone translating her classical training and civil rights fire into a mainstream pop setting without surrendering an inch of her singular intensity. Her reading of "Feeling Good" here became the definitive version, a slow-burn declaration of liberation that generations of listeners have returned to as something closer to a personal anthem than a pop song.
Leading off with a string-soaked rendition of that Screamin' Jay Hawkins title classic, this 1965 Mercury LP is a Nina Simone pop perfection. Also here: Gimme Some; Feeling Good; One September Day; Take Care of Business, and more.
