Ofra Haza – Shaday (CD)

Born in Tel Aviv to Yemenite Jewish immigrant parents, Ofra Haza carried the ancient vocal traditions of that diaspora into unlikely corners of the world, from Israeli folk stages to European dance floors. *Shaday*, released in 1988, was the album that made her an international phenomenon, built around her haunting interpretation of 16th-century Yemenite prayers that producer Bezalel Aloni helped transform into something utterly contemporary. The title track became a crossover touchstone, later sampled by artists across hip-hop and electronic music.
