Before the Kingsmen made "Louie Louie" a garage-rock touchstone, Paul Revere & The Raiders were cutting their own version in the Pacific Northwest, part of a regional scene that would shape American rock for decades. Mark Lindsay's snarl and the band's Revolutionary War costumes made them TV fixtures on Dick Clark's *Where The Action Is*, but the records always had real teeth, especially the Mark Lindsay and Terry Melcher productions that gave the hits their punch.
