Recorded in the shadow of Syd Barrett's deteriorating mental state, and famously interrupted by Barrett himself wandering into Abbey Road unrecognized during sessions, Wish You Were Here remains one of rock's most emotionally weighted tributes, a meditation on absence, artistic compromise, and the human cost of the music industry. The suite-length "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" bookends the album with a grief that never fully resolved for Waters, Gilmour, Wright, and Mason.
