Product Details
Recorded in the shadow of Syd Barrett's tragic unraveling, *Wish You Were Here* is at its core a eulogy for a lost friend, and the weight of that grief saturates every note. Barrett himself wandered into Abbey Road unannounced during the sessions, so transformed that his former bandmates initially didn't recognize him. That haunting real-life moment makes "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" feel less like a song and more like a séance.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, the album first appears on "Yellow Flame" vinyl. With 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', the hypnotic 'Welcome To The Machine', the snappy 'Have a Cigar' and the indispensable title song, Wish You Were Here is undoubtedly one of the most important albums in the history of pop music. The album's themes - absence, isolation, transience, and criticism of the insincerity of the music industry - are reflected in the iconic album cover. Even 50 years after it's release, "Wish You Were Here" sounds as up-to-date and vibrant as ever.
