Champaign, Illinois bred a lot of things, but few exports hit harder commercially than REO Speedwagon's 1980 breakthrough, which spent 15 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and turned the band's decade of road-worn persistence into a genuine cultural moment. The group had been grinding clubs and arenas since the early '70s, and Hi Infidelity was the payoff, a record that captured a band absolutely locked in at the peak of their powers.
