Roberto Roena came up as a bumbero with El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico before launching Apollo Sound in 1969, and that percussionist's instinct for rhythm and showmanship never left him. By the time Lucky 7 dropped, the Fania all-stars era was at full peak, and Roena's band was one of the label's sharpest ensembles, blending hard-driving boogaloo roots with the polished power that defined New York and Puerto Rican salsa in the mid-seventies.
Released in 1976 on Fania Records, Lucky 7 was Roberto Roena y Su Apollo Sound’s seventh studio album, arriving as their previous release still topped radio charts. Showcasing Roena’s innovative salsa sound—adding sax to blazing horns—the album features classics like “Mi Desengaño,” “Fea,” and “Que Me Castigue Dios.” This 50th anniversary edition features (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl, and housed inside a tip-on jacket replica of the original.
