Product Details

Billy Corgan conceived Mellon Collie as a double album in the tradition of The Wall and Physical Graffiti, an ambitious swing at something genuinely monumental during an era when alternative rock was still figuring out how ambitious it was allowed to be. The record captured the Pumpkins at their creative peak, with Jimmy Chamberlin's drumming serving as the volatile engine beneath Corgan's layered guitar orchestrations, a combination that wouldn't survive the cycle that followed.

Originally released October 24, 1995, MELLON COLLIE AND THE INFINITE SADNESS would debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified 9x platinum by the RIAA. It yielded major hits like "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" the band's unlikely first Top 40 hit the exquisite "1979" and epic "Tonight, Tonight" as well as a thoroughly inspired series of videos.
