Solomon Burke was one of the architects of Atlantic Records' soul sound in the early 1960s, bridging gospel fire with rhythm and blues in a way that influenced everyone from Van Morrison to the Rolling Stones. He was literally crowned "King of Rock 'n' Soul" at a 1964 performance, and he wore that title honestly for the rest of his life. This collection draws from the recordings that earned him that crown.
