Product Details

Sonny Terry's harmonica work sits at the foundation of American roots music, a direct line running from the Piedmont blues tradition through to every folk revival stage and juke joint that followed. Recording without Brownie McGhee gave Terry room to stretch out and lead, and what emerged on these 1960 sessions is some of his most personal and unguarded playing, rooted in the field hollers and work songs of his North Carolina upbringing.

Originally released in 1960 on Bluesville Records, this album spotlights the renowned harmonica master’s signature rural blues style, imitating a train or fox chase, on original tracks. Though not joined by longtime collaborator, Brownie McGhee on this release, McGhee’s brother “Sticks” McGhee accompanies Terry on drums. This edition has been (AAA) remastered from the original tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP in partnership with Acoustic Sounds and is housed in a replica tip-on jacket.
