Steve Dyer has spent decades weaving together the jazz, mbaqanga, and indigenous musical traditions of his native KwaZulu-Natal into something that feels both deeply rooted and forward-looking. A saxophonist and flutist shaped by South Africa's rich musical soil, his work sits in conversation with the broader African jazz lineage that stretches from Johannesburg's township sounds to international stages. This tenth solo project draws its title from the Zulu word for heart, and that's exactly where it lives.

Steve was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa in 1960 and completed a B Mus degree in performance at the University of Natal in 1981, majoring in saxophone and flute. As of October 1st 2023 Steve has just finished producing his 10th solo project called "Enhlizweni - song stories from my heartland". This project is the second release from newly formed label AricArise, a joint collaboration between Ropeadope and City Of Gold Arts.
