Summerbruise has been quietly building one of indie rock's more emotionally honest catalogs since Newman launched the project a decade ago, and Infinity Guise marks a real arrival moment for the band as a collective. Side One Dummy has long had a nose for artists who sit outside easy categorization, and this one fits that tradition well.

Death has always been an unwelcome but integral component of inspiration for Mike Newman. The music he makes as Summerbruise-which he started as a solo project in 2015 and which has since blossomed and bloomed into a fully-fledged band of close friends. The result is a set of songs-recorded at producer Nick Starrantino's Dead End Studios in Long Island-that play tug-of-war between Newman's own quirky vulnerability and the steady guiding hand of his musical co-conspirators.
