Rocky III put "Eye of the Tiger" everywhere in 1982, but Survivor were already a working rock band with a debut album and a following before Sylvester Stallone came calling. The title track's opening guitar riff became one of the most recognizable in pop radio history, and the album around it holds up as a lean, hook-driven AOR record that captured a particular moment in American rock before MTV changed everything.
