Mark Hollis and Talk Talk arrived in 1982 riding the New Romantic wave, but even here on their debut you can hear a restlessness that would eventually push them far beyond their synth-pop peers toward the skeletal, hushed experimentalism of *Spirit of Eden* and *Laughing Stock*. The 1997 remaster brings added clarity to Tim Friese-Greene's early production work, a partnership with Hollis that would deepen into one of the most singular creative collaborations in British music.
