Released in 1980 as a sprawling, defiant triple album, Sandinista! found the Clash pushing far beyond punk into dub, gospel, hip-hop, and calypso at a moment when most bands wouldn't have dared. The band insisted on pricing it as a single LP despite the format, essentially subsidizing the listener's adventurousness. At 36 tracks, it remains one of rock's most ambitious and genuinely weird statements of political conviction.
