Product Details
Recorded in two marathon sessions in May and October of 1956, the material that became *Steamin'* captured this quintet at a creative peak before Coltrane's departure would push both men toward their separate revolutionary paths. The interplay between Davis's muted trumpet and Coltrane's tenor on standards like "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" represents the kind of intuitive, conversational jazz that this band made look effortless.
Original Jazz Classics celebrates Miles Davis’ centennial with the release of Steamin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. Released on Prestige in 1961 as one of four albums recorded in 1956 at Van Gelder studios, Steamin’ features Davis with his first great quintet of John Coltrane, Paul Chambers, Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones. This new edition of the album is released on 180-gram vinyl pressed at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes at Cohearent Audio and a Tip-On Jacket.
