Red Garland spent the late 1950s redefining the piano trio format through his work with Miles Davis, and by the time this session came together in 1960, he'd developed a block-chord style so immediately identifiable it became a touchstone for a generation of jazz pianists. Pairing him with Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, whose tenor saxophone carried equal parts blues grit and bebop precision, made for a late-night conversation that feels as intimate now as it did then.
Also referred to as Moodsville Volume 1, this newly remastered edition of The Red Garland Trio + Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis is released as part of the new Moodsville Series. Originally release in 1960 and recorded at Rudy Van Gelder's New Jersey studio, it features Red Garland (piano), Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, Sam Jones (bass), and Art Taylor (drums). This new edition is presented on 180-gram vinyl pressed at QRP with all-analog mastering from the original tapes and housed in a Tip-On Jacket.
