Liner Notes
Released in 1989, Full Moon Fever was Petty's first proper solo outing, though the Heartbreakers were never entirely absent, with Mike Campbell and Howie Epstein contributing throughout. The record also arrived during Petty's run with the Traveling Wilburys alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Lynne, and that collaborative spirit is all over it.
Tom Petty left the Heartbreakers behind, hooked up with musician, writer, and producer Jeff Lynne, and rocked out with "Runnin' Down a Dream," got mellow and introspective on "Free Fallin'" and "A Face in the Crowd," and paid tribute (finally) to the Byrds with a cover of "Feel a Whole Lot Better."
