Uncle Tupelo – Anodyne (CD)
Product Details
Anodyne turned out to be Uncle Tupelo's farewell, recorded just before Jeff Tweedy and Jay Farrar went their separate ways to form Wilco and Son Volt, respectively. That bittersweet context gives the album's worn-road imagery and tension an added weight in retrospect. Doug Sahm's guest appearance on "Give Back the Key to My Heart" remains one of the era's great unexpected pairings, a reminder of how deep the band's roots ran.
Uncle Tupelo's marriage of punk rock animus with the simplicity of American roots music ignited a major movement heralding rock's return to traditional country origins. Anodyne, their 1993 release, was widely considered their definitive work. The disc reinterprets country, rock, and folk idioms with the compelling vision that was Tupelo's own. The CD has been expanded by 5 tracks and remastered to capture the live brilliance more faithfully than ever.
