Before *Tres Hombres* made them legends and before the fur and sunglasses became iconography, ZZ Top were a hard-working Texas trio rooted in the Gulf Coast blues tradition of bands like Moving Sidewalks. *Rio Grande Mud* captures Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard still road-hungry and raw, with "Francene" offering an early glimpse of the lean, locked-in groove that would eventually fill arenas from Houston to everywhere else.

RIO GRANDE MUD is the second album by American blues-rock band ZZ Top, released in 1972. By this release, ZZ Top was honing the tough blues rock hybrid that would make it a certified U.S. arena headliner by the mid-seventies. While the album didn't spawn the big radio hits of it's later releases, RIO GRANDE MUD was another incredibly consistent and inspired ZZ Top classic.
