Recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis in 1973, Tres Hombres was the record that put ZZ Top on the national map, fueled by the strutting, irresistible "La Grange," a song rooted as deeply in John Lee Hooker's boogie as it is in the backroads mythology of Texas. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard were still a lean, hungry three-piece here, and that rawness is exactly what makes the grooves crackle.
